Thinking of buying a thickness planer and as it is only going to be for hobbie use. Basicly what is the best value for money planers on the market around the $500 mark.

Thanks Goldy

Goldy, with your budget allocation you may want to look at the second hand classifieds either in your local papers or check out the dealers in machinery in your area sometimes they sell on behalf of folk upgrading.
Cheers :)

I know of 2 options with that budget:

1. Ryobi AP13 Planer/Thicknesser - Basically a CT-340 clone with 2 blade cutterhead. Standard machine but works well. About $490 from Bunnings outlets.

2. Carbatec's 12.5" Machine on sale at the moment for $499 - Similar machine, probably not a lot of difference in performance or specs really.

Both machines are a good choice for the hobbyist on a budget if you are wanting to buy new.
