I saw a great plan in a yankee mag this morning but at $18 odd for the mag I am not eager to buy it. I have enough of a mental picture of it to build one from scratch but it is a lot easier to ask is anyone has made one and has the plan first.

Thanks in advance (I hope).

If you're after a way of doing these with your router, you can do the following:

1. Cut one frame member at 45 deg. and the other at 90.
2. Put a flush trimmer bit in your router and set the depth to half the thickness of your frame.
3. Use a 45 deg. guide (just a bit of ply cut at 45 deg. each end with a straight edge attached to the long side so it hooks over the outside edge of the stock) and trim the end of the 90 deg. stick.
4. Use a 90 deg. guide to trim the end of the 45 deg. stick.

If you did it all with the correct sides facing up (90 deg. stick face side up, 45 deg. stick face side down) then you'll have a half lap mitre. In theory, anyway.
