Thanks to those Forum members who have visited my site - I hope some of the info has proved helpful. For those who haven't visited recently there is a new free tutorial on design using an idea (curtain wire) presented initially by Richard Raffan in one of his books on bowl turning. I have extended and formalised the idea into a simple method of investigating and recording curves and called the tutorial Flexicurve. It involves the use of simple, easily available components and involves no drawing skills. Some turners in the UK have found the method useful - using the board with the mounted wire beside the lathe as reminder of the shape they are trying to achieve. There is also a section on catenery curves. For the more adventurous my new Blog has examples of 3D sculptoral shapes that could provide starting points for new ideas. As usual everything is freely downloadable. If anyone would like larger versions of any of the pics on the Blog please make contact.
Happy turning
