My outlaws have asked me to make them a rack to dry their gum boots (wellingtons for the poms amongst you) for use at the farm.

Originally thinking of a cast iron base with inset timber and dowels rising straight up to put boots on upside down.

Since starting to turn on my lathe I've been thinking that I could use a piece of timber fixed to the wall outside the back door to the house with shorter turned spindles coming out at slight angle upwards to support each boot either side also upside down. So two spindles per boot.

This should help prevent too many creepy crawlies making the boots home as they'll be off of the ground.

Anyone made a boot rack or similar or have comments on design etc. ?

Gday HH, I made a very, er, rustic model for our back steps.

Base is just a piece of 5"x3" cypress fence post about 2'6" long.

Drilled holes in top for lengths of broomstick. Rounded ends of broomstick on router table. Sized lengths of broomstick to go right to the toe of the boots, so they hang to drain properly.

Cheers............Sean

Got a bandsaw? Try this upside down.

Great minds think alike Sean, I did the same years ago except that the base is redgum and it is still going strong.
