Recently moved and finally got the lathe wired up today, however when I turned on the VFD 2 little square red light lit up and when I shut down the code LU came up.

Lathe runs both forward and reverse but when I shut down the VFD it made a funny noise.

Any ideas gratefully accepted and is it safe to run lathe like this or does it indicate a problem with the VFD.

Thank you, Trevor

The 2 square red lights and code LU are normal.

What type of noise are you hearing? Humming or a clunk?

Most VFD's that I have heard make a humming or fan type noise.

On mine the electronics and fan run a little while after I switch off.
Then LU comes up and the fan runs down creating a different noise.

Sounds like all is normal unless it is a grinding type noise from the fan.

Thank you both, it's more of a humming noise so I assume its the fan running down.

The lathe has been in hibernation since January while I moved so perhaps I just never noticed and remembered the lights and noise! It's a bugger getting older!
