Craft Supplies USA ( http://www.woodturnerscatalog.com/ ) has small quartz movements - 4 styles available at 1 1/2" for a 1 3/8" recess. Not listed as watch inserts per se, along with some larger, but the index page of their paper catalog refers to the whole works as "Clocks/Watch Inserts." Enter "clock" in the search field (without quote marks). No affiliation, etc.

Try Jim Carroll - he has 36mm fit ups (http://www.cws.au.com/cgi/index.cgi/shopfront/view_by_category?category_id=1107144846)that should work and so does Gary Pye (http://gpwoodturning.yahoostore.com.au/cgi/index.cgi/shopfront/view_by_category?category_id=1107136737)

It is from WWW.leevalley.com (http://www.leevalley.com) . But is basically an insert and gold chain. You surely have the same across the pond.:)

I had a few pocket watches that I bought from second hand stores... might be a cheap way of getting what you want.
