i am going to teach a friends kid to turn and was trying to think of some easy things to turn for a beginer.

currrently i have thaught of

1. rollingpin
2. candle stick
and thats about to extent of my ideas

bottle stoppers (great gifts for mum and dad)
pens (Quick and easy and can show off to friends)

How about some simple spinning tops, and some handles? if he wants to go on with it he can tur his owntool handles.

what size should the hole in the top of a candle stick be?

You should have a brass holder in the top of your candles sticks.

Bud Vases are easy to turn and only require small pieces of wood.

Small wooden boxes for a girl would be good, she could use them to hold jewelery. Also Toni (lubbing5cherubs) mentioned in another thread about turning bangles, you could also try earrings or even a necklace tree
