Turned this for a gun loving mate.

Same dimensions as a .308 bullet

Timber is Osage Orange, sanded to 1000, EEE, shellawaxed.

Looks like some bullets we practiced with when I was in the military. If I remember rightly, it was in learning all about the M-1 Garand.
Nice one, FunkyC, I like that grain on the OO.

It wasn't turned between centres so the centres not lining wasn't a problem.

I have a couple expended cannon shells (90mm) from my days in the artillery. I searched high and low for an anatomically correct pattern to make turned bullets. One of my mates brought me to my senses: "Nobody else knows what they look like, so why not just make something that looks about right?" Still on my to-do list.

I have 2 x 4.5" and 2 x 5" cartridges that I keep meaning to fit shells to.
