Hey, in the US, Cali, So Cal to narrow it down, any of you around?
Looking for a "reasonable" source of marine ply. Any advice. Going to
build a Eureka and put up pic's as I go along. Keith:doh:

Any "free advice" will be gladly taken.

Can't help, but will say this - buy the very best quality that you can afford. The actual cost of the ply compared to epoxy and paint and the rest means that it will be only a very minor increase in overall price.

Also, it is best to buy ply that complies and says that it complies with a domestic set of standards - a lot of inferior ply is marketed as BS 1088 but because it is not sold in the UK that doesn't mean anything. Only domestic standards are enforceable against the manufacturer or distributer.

Welcome coogzilla,

JMK sums it up I think. We can't help you with sourcing in So Cal, but you should try to get a hold of Okume, it's nice and light.

Try Duckworks (http://www.duckworksbbs.com/) for plans, glue and fibreglass supplies and advice regarding ply sources.

Cheers,

P

I found a BS 1088 supplier in Los Anglese. Gaboon as you Aussies say.
Sent E-mail as they requested. Two days and counting. No reply!
Guess there making so much big buck's they don't need mine. I'll try
again. Maybee, I'll have some luck.

Most here don't even know how to wipe there bums let alone build a boat.

Howdy Keith,

I had a look on the net but was so overwhelmed with results that I can't sort them into some sort of useful order.

Try this Google search and see if you know any of these places.

Several mention gaboon/okoume

Is Hydrotech Meranti any good? 45
Keith

Keith,

Hydrotech is a very good product, manufactured to BS1088 (the highest common specification for marine plywood). I assume you're looking at 6mm? Even so, $45 is a very good price for that product. Some kind of closeout?

Aquatek - from the same mfgr. - is also quite good. It's manufactured IIRC to the BS6566 spec. Not as perfect as 1088, bet very good.

I got 6 sheets of 6mm and it's pretty nice stock. BS 1088 5ply. Meranti.
If ya live on the west side and need some ply let me know. I don't know
if it's ok to post the supplier on here. Keith
