I am cutting down a large prickly paper bark (melaleuca sty.). Can you please advise if this timber is suitable for woodturning?

I put some paperbark on the lathe on the weekend, some branchwood that I picked up in my travels a couple of years ago.

It cracked up heaps while drying, but I ended up with some reasonable bits for small turnings.

Roughing down through the papery stuff is a pain, but the solid timber underneath turned a treat!

I'd save a bit in the shed.

I had to drop a small one when I wanted to extend the shed and kept a bit to play with. It's turning characteristics are good but the colour changed to a cruddy pale brown as it dried which doesn't do a thing for me. Could have been because I left the bark on though so you might want to strip it before you store it :;
