Hi all.
Have been turning for about a month now and am loving it. I made a couple of small bowls yesterday and all went well until I noticed that each one has a kind of blue stain around the bottom which seem to be spreading from burn marks from within the chuck recess. Any ideas?
Also..while Ive got your attention, the council lopped a tree down at a neaby oval the other day and I managed to procure some before they chipped it. One guy said it was "Cheesewood". "Has anyone turned this before? Its a kind of pinky orange colour at the moment although it is very wet.

Thanks in advance

Phil

Gooday,

they are probably not burn marks but the reaction of the steel jaws with tanin in the timber.

Was it green i.e. wet timber?
