US woodturner needs your help??

Hi I have a question from a fellow turner who is oversea that is travelling and he has asked me below:

am going to be traveling to Australia and New Zealand this July and
I was wondering if there is anyone on this board who lives in Sydney
or Auckland that knows of any places in those cities that I can buy
some of the native wood (esp. burls) and have it shipped back to the
U.S.

Can anyone help me here?

Haven't dealt with the new owners, but I know they used to ship tons of burls all over the world, so this is a good place to start.

As for Auckland, he might not do as well as he can in Sydney, in regard to highly featured timbers etc.

Depending on how much time he has got and his method of transport I could direct him to a good source of burls,[2hrs drive from Sydney] rather than going to retail here in Sydney.

But if he cares to contact me.I can give him an address of one the good NZ turners in Auckland and will put him in contact with the major club in south Auckland not far from the airport.

I think I might be the turner in question. I am going to be in Sydney for World Youth Day (July 14-21) and was hoping to find a place that I can get to with public transportation where I can find some of the native woods to ship back to the US. I mainly turn pens, small boxes and goblets. (I have a Jet Mini Lathe.)

I will also be in Auckland but my only day there will be a Sunday so I think I might be out of luck, though I will be in Paihia for a morning.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have contacted the email for bradburls and I haven't heard anything back yet.

Looks like Jock has got you sorted out ok. if your stuck for pen stuff, small blocks etc. Try Carbartec in Station Rd Auburn Sydney, they generally carry a range of blanks etc.

The best spot would be the Sydney Wood Show which is running 13-15 June. Ideal for a visiting turner, tools, timber and demos :2tsup:. Its around $15 to get in and its well worth it.

I think its so close you may well choose to walk there from the World Youth Day.

Where are you staying when you are in Sydney? If you're lucky I might be able to take a day off and take you out to Trend Timbers. I need an excuse to go out there:D or there is the Saturday depending on my son's sport.
