Easy Rougher Ci1 Tool Loaner

As indicated in this thread (http://www.woodworkforums.com/showthread.php?t=75715) by jefferson (http://www.woodworkforums.com/member.php?u=17017), we have an Easy Rougher Ci1 Tool that can be used by any of you who wishes to do so.

Anyone in Australia is welcome to try it out, just indicate in this thread if you wish to have it for a 2 week period to do so and send me a Private Message (http://www.woodworkforums.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=11243) with your Full Name and Postal Address for me to pass on to the relevant person to post it to you.

Just to add to this, I too now have one that was sent to me for review.
I paid the freight.
Once I have given it a work out & written a review (with pics) I am happy to pass it on to interested members at this end of the continent.

So far I have only used it on a couple of bits of very wet hoop pine &, as long as the chip deflector is in place, it is not too bad.

Mind you, I have had a bit of trouble keeping the chip deflector in place, it tends to vibrate loose & jump off. :cool:

The last time it jumped off, the spinning blank belted it for a 6; it bounced off the wall behind my head, hit the roof & then the side wall. :oo:
It took me 2 beers & a very bright torch to find it hiding in a pile of sawdust under my saw bench. :D

I gave it a fairly solid work out on a big ugly knotty piece that was so heavy I needed 2 hands to get it on the lathe.
It had one big dry hard deadwood knot about 75mm (3") across running through it at an angle with a few bark inclusions & some wonderful grain.
I had several snatches on the knot & one bent my cheap Chinese S bend tool rest. :~
The tool tip is very brittle & I have managed to put 2 tiny little chips in the corners of the first side but it still cuts OK.

1. It works better at higher speeds.
2. It works better once the blank is round.

I have offered it to TTIT next & I would like to take it to the Prossy turnout in 6 weeks but let me know if you would like to be in line to give it a try.

I gave mine a work out at the Toowoomba BBQ last weekend and feel sure everyone was impressed. It was only a relatively small blank to rough out, the lathe couldn't handle the big blanks I brought along, but everyone got a turn using it.

I'd be happy to demo the tool again at the Perth BBQ or anyone else's workshop over there in a few weeks, if someone else gets the "loaner" (no room in my luggage for mine), and a lathe is available.
