Just beginning, Need help, advice

Just beginning, need advice on wood turning lathe, which one to buy, am looking on ebay at a couple, what do I need to look for??:doh:

I am looking at two Rand lathes, one variable speed and one 5 speed. Anyone know anything about these machines

All of the advice floating around these forums seems to suggest the generic MC900 or MC1100 lathes from Carbatec, Hare & Forbes, et. al. seems to be the option.

Really depends on what you want to do, but that's a starting point.

Ozkaban, I have a sneaking suspicion that mehalliday has a long way to travel to any Carbatec store, I think MO stands for Missouri US?

Anyway your MC900/1100 recommendation is a good one, but mehaliday would be better off to look for one on the Jet or Grizzly site.

Surely they have cheap chinese imports in the US too though???
