Well it's not really hot off the press, actually This one took four days to make. It measures 240mm diametre and 145mm deep and made from black wattle. The lines in the top are yellow walnut. There are 242 pieces of wood all told. The square inserts in the top were hand made and individually fitted. Sealed inside and out with sanding sealer and given two coats of lacquer, cut back with 1200# wet and dry paper and buffed with EEE ultra shine. A very satisfying project.

Very impressive, Jim, up to your usual high standards.

You must be almost ready to move on from turning glued-up scraps and onto turning some real wood! :innocent:

Thank you all for the nice comments, forgot to add the wall thickness is 6mm. As for turning a "solid" bit of wood..... naaaah, too much trouble.. :wink: :)

Jim

That's an inspirational piece of work to this novice.

Even in the photo's the wood is alive, but I bet it's something to see up close.

You just can't duplicate that in plastic.

All the best

Re-sets the standard, Jim.:2tsup::2tsup:

Nicely done Jim,

I have thought about trying a segmented soccer ball, but I have not tried it because it would take so much time for me to just make a start and I can see that the pieces would not meet up as well. Do you have any tips for us mere mortals for cutting so accurately?
