Hi Everyone.I've just finished turning a few spokes for a very old wheel for a friend.
The wood was Vic ash I think The turning itself was a peace of cake.
Fitting the spokes to the rim was a pain in the - you know-. I don't think we're very
good friends anymore---Just kiding---
I've attached some photos. Coments Welcome .Cheers Tony.:)

First photo --Blanks ready to turn

Nice work Tony,

I have a lot of respect for wheelwrights. The traditional process where they used green wood and unlikely looking mortising machines is a fascinating one for me too.

Thanks for looking guys and for the positive coments

TTIT. The rim is made of rolled mild steel similar to a motor cycle wheel but much
heavier I'm attaching a photo of the rim before assembly.hope it comes through.

Hi Wheelin the wheel is from a T model ford I think? and is not going on the car
my friend which I did the job for is going to make an outdoor light fitting out of it
and hang it out the patio.
cheers Tony. Sorry TTIT the photo with rim will not load...:?:doh:

Last time I was at Sovereign Hill in Vic they had an old morticing machine going to cut the sockets in the hub.

Went gangbusters.

Hate to do it by hand :-{
