Ive recently made some sash clamps for large table top gluing. I got the idea for them from a Veritas product that I saw at Carbatec. Not having bottomless pockets (an excuse for being tightfisted) I called into a Fastenings warehouse and bought a length of 19mm and 10mm booker rod and a 10mm tap all up cost $23.
I then cut the 19mm rod into 140mm lengths and drilled and threaded a hole in the middle of the rod then screwed 120mm lengths of 10mm rod into them creating a T shape. The 10mm rod has a nut welded on and the end that contacts the wood has the thread turned (or filed off) and a peice of 12mm square bar 40mm long attached.
This with the 50 x100 bars of jarrah gives me 3 clamps at a minimal cost.
I cannot post pics as my Mac has the wrong pic files but if you see the veritas clamps the proccess will become clear. The saving was about $157
