Have seen various references to Araldite glue, and assumed that it was epoxy. Now am not so sure. What is it?

Definitely a 2 pack epoxy adhesive, available in various cure time variants, here is the 5 min variety.

Here is the MSDS (http://msds.orica.com/pdf/shess-en-cds-010-000703514101.pdf), it is an amine cured 2 part epoxy.

Araldite is an Aussie thing - like Vegemite but not as tasty:;:U A bit like when you guy's talk about DNA - and we think you're talking about genetic science:doh: instead of what you mix with Nugget when you're on hard times:U

Ye gods, Nugget and meths???

Not black velvet. More like black acid. Ergghh. Makes petrol sniffing seem like a nice cup o' tea.

APPARENTLY? Theres no apparrantly about it, But for the more discerning amongst us, a far better mix is Eau-de-cologne and black kiwi polish.

heathens heathens your all heathens. Black shoe polish then strain it through a bread roll.

Araldite or something very simlar to what we have to day, developed by the British in WW2 to glue the Mosquito bomber together. Its was the only wooden bomber in that war and from all accounts was an outstanding success.

The Mosquito was built using casein glues and later on urea formaldehyde. The casein glue later became the trade name Cascamite a dry powder glue that is also used in marine applications. Araldite was the glue that held together Sir Malcolm Campbell's "Bluebird" land and water record vehicles. The Bluebirds were a sandwich of aluminium waffle foil between the inner and outer smooth aluminium skins. Brits still use "araldite" as a generic term for all epoxies just as "hoover" is a vacuum cleaner:)

I am always impressed by the wealth of knowledge displayed on this forum. A guy asks about glue and the discussion ranges from ways to drink metho to how bombers were held together. I reckon we could put a hell of a trivia team together.

My very dry old materials science lecturer made a big deal about "Arel-dit-ee" being the Greek godess of Adhesion!
