Posted this in finishing but I guess it relates well here too. Its an archive of old books that are free to down load. A lot of info on old varnish recipes and oil recipes. I have down loaded a few, especially the paint and varnish book

Thanks, Hughie.
I reckoned that I liked the idea of the paint and varnish book (to maybe mix some special elixir). I looked for it, and only found 23 gazzillion of them. Can you be more specific? :D

Thanks Hughie :2tsup::2tsup:

I have not had time to look at them properly but the quick scan shows some interesting stuff.
I might print some of and settle down with a bottle of rum and do a bit of reading tonight:D

In the library of the erstwhile Working Man's College in Melb. I found a very old book on French Polishing.

The interesting thing about the recipes was the natural gums added to the basic formula. Benzoin etc. Dunno why. Improve toughness maybe.
