Can anyone help?
I am restoring a very old double bass, otherwise known as a bass fiddle. The wood is cracked and in some places warped, and in general very dry. The back and front of the instrument appear to be made of English beech, the front being carved, and the back pressed from approx 3mm thick wood. It's the back that i need advise for, It's warped and i need to know the best method of making it flat and straight.
The front of the instrument has an open crack in it due to shrinkage i think, so not possible to clamp it, How do i deal with this?
