I have been asked to assist a limited sight person to take up wood turning. This chap is extremely intelligent and after a discussion session about turning we are both confident that he can safely get considerable pleasure from the lathe. I have a little experience in helping students in craft classes at the Blind School but would be most appreciative of any suggestions / information or help that is forth coming from other turners with this type of knowledge.

There is an excellent lathe made in South Australia which I think would be perfect for a blind person as it was originally designed specifically for that purpose... I just can't remember the brand! It has a flat bed which allows a hand held tool post to slide around on it and it uses a cutter which will do most things that can be done with ordinary tools. It isn't a cheap lathe but seems to be exceptionally well designed and built. If I can find the name I'll post it. Rick

That's it for sure, Symtec! I can never remember that name. It's a very impressive lathe and I'm positive it was originally designed to allow blind people to use.
