Hi Folks,

I think I'll be getting a 13.3mm drill bit from Beartooth Woods in the US. Given there may be plenty of space left in the mailing envelope, I was wondering if any of you wanted me to pick up some extra bits at the same time, and I can forward them on when they arrive here.

The price for the bits alone in Aus seems to vary from about $27 - $45, depending on your locality (if you can get them locally at all). I figure buying this way, at US$10 each, I could get one delivered to anyone in Australia for $20.

I have yet to confirm how many Ernie can send in a flate rate box, so not sure how many orders I can take, but if you're interested, post a reply here and I'll see what I can do.

I'd like to order ASAP, so if you can reply within the next few days, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks. Russell.

I have a 13.3mm bit for El Grande etc pens. To be honest, I think it is too big. I have a lot more problems with blow out and turning through the timber with a 13.3 bit. It is particularly noticable with acrylic, because the thickness of the acrylic has a large bearing on the look of the pen. The recommended 33/64 bit is too small, and needs filing out before the tube will go in. Given that 33/64 is very close to 13.1, then maybe 13.2 is the best choice. If I am doing a whole pile of pens I will use the 13.3 mm and realise I will likely lose a few. If I am doing small runs I use the 33/64 and just file out to size. If anyone can find a decent cheap source of 13.2 mm I will be in for that.

Sorry I'll retract the offer in light of this.

Sorry for my ignorance but if you drill a hole 13.2 or 13.3mm for gluing a tube on it, what size blank does it needs to be, and what is its pen diameter finished size?

Thanks

Hmm, haven't got the one I've made anymore to check, and it depends on your shaping, but I'd say final diameter is approaching 16mm without a lot of fat on it.

I try to have all my blanks 19mm as I've got a cruddy drill press which tends to not drill straight, so I need a couple mm allowance.
