Hi All,

I am going to post this in the wanted section as well but does anyone in the nth qld region have a jet lathe for sale? I am specifically wanting the 1014 as it is a small one I can move onto and off my work bench......... Unless someone has something of equal quality that they have they would like to sell to a new and enthusiastic woodturner .... who specifically wants to turn pens.

Looking at this on BBAY.-- Does it look like the shaft is broken? and has a burnt look around the head? Not a good pic to blow up but you would want to see this before bidding needs new shaft and chuck,so what has happened?

Looks like the casting where the front bearing would sit has broken away, as you said Aussie, bit hard to tell.

Also pick up only, Doubt its worth a trip from townsville or thereabouts, possibly a bit big for straight out pen turning as well .I can understand a bearing blowout, but to damage the shaft takes real talent hehe. And it seems the chuck as well, someone must have had a lucky escape when all that happened hehe.:)

If there is a member who lives close to the seller they could have a look at it for him.

Looks like it would be a bit big and heavy for moving around. I am not too far away but unfortunately I have an appointment to morrow morning and it only has 14 hours to go.
For $500 you should be able to pick up something a bit better than that I would reckon. Especially as it needs work doing to it.

Was having another look at this.I am not a wood lathe person. But not a hayseed either.
ON top of what I said in post no 3 above.
The tailstock is missing its innards,no shaft or winder handle.
Also what is that blue painted steel support from the ground to the bed for??Is the bed broken also or just to stop it getting a back ache???
There also seems to be a steel plate with a large bolt through it,up close to the headstock (on the bed)
Seems to be missing the tool rest thingo as well.
What do you think guys.I would have liked someone to have seen it and reported back. The guy selling it must have more guts than me!
I would have dumped it in the tip.Couldnt sell that to anybody.:oo::o:o:o

The extras look to have been fitted to stop the lathe jumping around the shed. I'd say its had some seriously heavy lumps of wood on it.:)

It will never wear out though,no way you would use that without a spindle ,looks like a homemade arrangement on the headstock to hold it to the bed, and the centre holdown bolt is probably an extra you need to pay for as well :( Mind from the overall look of the thing I suspect its from a deceased estate lol. :)

Ok so the sale finished and didnt sell - wonder why

It has been relisted here (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=320353725282)

So thought i would be a pain on the neck and ask a question or two.

Here is my email

Dear authenticdreamtimeart,

There appears from the photo to have a peice broken from the housing where the bearings from the main shaft sit?
Where are the shaft, wheel etc from te tailstock?
What speeds does it have?
Where are the main shaft & chuck?
What happened to damage them/it?

Thakyou david

The reply came back today
Hi David

The main shaft has been removed. We still have it but it is damaged and requires replacing
It can run on multiple speeds
We are keeping the main chuck as we still use it.
It was just wear and tear which damaged the main shaft.

Any more questions feel free to ask.

Thanks

Brian

So i assume yopu can cover a lot on just normal wear & tear.
Not sure Jet would agree with that answer.
Cheers

Spanner,
That a very good deal and in the mean time if you would like to borrow a lathe until David arrives in 18th April to get you started I have a leda Mini lathe you could borrow if you want. Leda is a mini lathe not a jet but she makes ripper pens. Guaranteed.
PM me in you are interested and we can work something out. I don't want to sell it as it my daughters lathe now but she said she is prepared to loan it to just for a short term until you get yours.
bye Toni
