Just a quick story about the Singleton Woodworkers Club.
10 years ago, the idea of forming a club in Singleton was suggested and our first initial get together attracted approximately 30 people.
Of course, there were the knockers who reckoned the club would never last, but you get them in every occasion.
We originally kicked off in the woodwork rooms at the local high school and this was our home for some 8 years.Luck would have it, we were asked to do some heritage restoration work at the local showground and after the work was done, the question was asked to us would we be interested in one of the old pavilions at the showground for our own clubhouse.
A deal was struck and the old greyhound racing shed was handed over to the club.
The "dog house" as it is affectionately known as been the greatest thing to happen to the club as it has given the members a sense of ownership and they have had a great time cleaning out the shed and turning it into a usable workshop.
Our 10 years are up and the club is still going strong. To celebrate this milestone, we are having an open day on May 17th with demonstrations, displays and a q&a session for anyone from the public with restoration questions etc.The Triton owners of Newcastle will be attending and they are always good for advice and a laugh (great bunch of blokes).
If anyone is in the Singleton area that weekend, please feel free to drop in and make yourself known. I am sure we can spare a feed off the barby and always happy for a chat.
Access is via the Bathurst street entrance of the showground and the "dog house " is just inside the gates.
Hope to see you there.:2tsup:
