Hi everyone,

I have some old white pva glue that has gone thick and hard. Is there anyway to thin it out and bring it back to life, maybe with water ? I'm not worried about saving the cost of the glue just interested if you can do it.
Thanks for any info.
Tony

I was told that white pva can be rstored with the addition of water, never tried though, I beat the moths out of the wallet and bought a new batch.
I would practice on something not important if you do try it.
And ask Neil about his yellow weldbond experience....

PVA glue usually has a shelf life of about 12mths. After that they quickly loose there sticky power so to speak. Although the shelf life depends on a lot of varibles. Being up here in tropical QLD the shelf life can generally be considered to be less than 12mths.
Your best bet would be to contact the manufacturer and talk to there techheads about the shelflife etc. While there is no doubt that PVA can be watered down I am sure that you would find that after a certain period, watering it down to a usable consistancy would also water down its holding capacity. Again, the techheads should be able to confirm or deny this.
Heres a link to a commonly used PVA by the furnishing industry. http://www.avsyntec.com.au/docs/a002.pdf it is a PDF document link so you will require Adobe to view it ( I think http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/eek.gif )

HTH!

Cheers....

Just a plug for both the Syntec site in Shanes post and their phone assistance - I've found them to be extremely helpful and patient, especially with an amateur like me.
