Snap-On Nailers And other Stuff

Posted 18th Dec 2009 at 11:05 PM by Dean
Well the review of the Snap-On Framing Nailer is finally complete with some interesting observations! Product Review - Snap-On Tools Round Head Framing Nailer - OnlineToolReviews.com

On other fronts, our fourth (and hopefully last - this time) child is due tomorrow but not real sign of any delivery just yet... the clock is ticking though.

I have been working through some home reno projects as well as fixing a dodgy plastering job over at the neighbours house... how some of these blokes call themselves professionals is beyond me!

Random Mumblings

Posted 16th Sep 2009 at 06:24 PM by Dean
On the outboard/boat front, the Yamaha 30 continues to run be-yoo-tifully and starting to bag some good fish, including a 70cm dusky flathead, a personal best!

On the woodworking front, I still have the chair rail molding in progress. Working through a problem with the final molding pass. The pine is too light and vibrating producing a lot of chatter and poor surface. Have a plan to attach something heavier for the final pass to remedy the problem.

On the power tool front, it seems Snap-On tools are now making nail guns! I've got a few of them on order to test and review in the near future. Hopefully they are as good as their other hand tools

Outboard Fixed!

Posted 16th Jun 2009 at 07:46 PM by Dean
Managed to repair the corroded seals on the Yamaha 30Hp outboard for less than $100 in parts

Outboard running well now and many happy fishing trips had with a few good fish caught. Happy days... for now

Next project is milling 100m of molding to install chair rails and wainscotting in mum's house for her birthday pressie... Will be interesting!

I need to learn....

Posted 13th Apr 2009 at 05:01 PM by Dean
Not to buy second hand outboards...

Recenbtly sold the smaller boat with the 15Hp Johnson on it...

Purchased a larger 4.3m SeaJay boat with a 15hp on it which was underpowered... Found a second hand 30Hp on ebay for a good price... Of course I now discover water in the gearcase and a corroded seal plate under the water pump housing And it just so happens this single small metal part is one of the most expensive in the lower unit... Bye bye $200.

GRRRRR! Not liking people who dont look after their stuff and then are too dishonest to tell you about when they go and sell it to you

Life goes on. At least i am learning how to disassemble an outboard from the top down along the way

Update on 15hp outboard...

Posted 1st Dec 2008 at 05:33 PM by Dean
If you have read my other blog entry you will know I purchased a troublesome second hand 1986 15hp for my little 3.4m boat.

Anyway as an update, the news is good... Have taken her out at least half a dozen times since then an ran close to 30km on the water each time including many stops and starts and she is working very well. Only once did I have the heart rate raised when the telltale starting steaming! I believe this was caused by junk in the river after rain that temporarily blocked the water intake slots. I lifted the engine and dropped it again (which probably allowed the debris to fall off), started her up again and a full stream of water again and another 15km of trouble free use after that. Things are looking good for this old little engine
