Default Buck Kangaroo in Huon Pine

Haven't posted for a while, after 28 years living in the bush moved into town - beautiful Braidwood. Huge job! And life's been hectic. Have managed to get a little carving in.

Today I got my facebook page up and running if anyone would like to see more of my carvings. Germaine Keys Wood Carving Sculpture

Well carved. Obviously you have found more than just "a little" time for carving.
Just scanned your FB body of carvings. Gallery grade.
    Any exhibition ambition?

    Hi RV,
    Thank you.
As for exhibition ambition, I've had a couple in here and there, not for me! I think I'm a hermit.

Perhaps it is little more than a small dose of self confidence.
This carving commumity would certainly endorse the quality of your carvings.

You know? What really gets to me about the whole bunch of them?
You have not only a minimalist style but, you have been able to capture
the largest and the least of the forms of those animals.

Please be confident that our heads, my head, can fill in all the blanks
to make those creatures real. I have seen a sleeping Wombat.
You know what they look like.

    Thanks RV,
I think I've spent too many years in the bush with no neighbours and no friends. Just concentrated on raising 3 boys and doing a little carving. I seem to be more at home in the bush or on the beach. I didn't see it coming but I think I unconsciously excommunicated myself from society! I realise I'm not so comfortable with people and crowds. This forum has been just fantastic. I've listened to all of you - Robson you advised carve Australia's unique animals, Springwater advised that Flexcut micro chisels are great, David Stanley advised a blog and many others gave encouragement.
Thank you to all of you, I consider you my friends.

Great seeing more of your work Featherwood! As the proud owner of two of your pieces, I'm tempted to make it three. I too admire the way you can capture the crucial elements of your subject without bogging down in detail.

As for galleries... only if you want to sell. If you are just doing for fun or relaxation then don't worry about it till all your shelves fill up!

Really nice job, almost ceramic quality in that finish.

Lovely work Featherwood, I've tried a kangaroo and found it a very hard carve. You love your Huon Pine don't you, so do I.

I really like the simple and stylistic design of your sculptures but think they'd be even better on a grander scale. I'm thinking life size.

Thank you for your kind words.
I haven't posted for a while as I've been a bit distracted. Today I leave for Gallipoli, touring SE Asia and the Middle East on the way. Arriving at Gallipoli on the 24th of April. I'm really looking forward to seeing different carvings from other cultures along the way, I might learn a thing or two!
    Thanks again.
    Regards

    Germaine
