Cheers for the suggestions guys! I'll get onto sourcing some Jelutong and report back.

Is that done with the Pfeil knife, straight out of the box?

Cheers mate! The first set I posted yesterday was with it straight out of the box and then I sharpened before #2 & #4 with 1000/5000/12000 Shapton ceramic stones. Made a huge difference.

Hi Bueller, Welcome to the world of carving, I see you are in Perth, we live in a beautiful state but it's not the best place to find soft carving wood, I get some wood sent from the East but just found a place in Malaga that sells Lime and I'm picking some up next week, it's bloody expensive though. The place is called Auspol timbers and he does mostly imported timber. Jelutong is a good beginners wood for knives but I'm not sure who sells it these days, I have some very small pieces of Jelutong and other softer woods I would be willing to give you a few bits to try out if you want, just PM me if your interested.

Played around some more tonight, getting a little bit more consistency but still cutting too deep on a lot of cuts. I think I'll do the same again with a larger star in the middle of the border, it kind of gets lost in this one.

Well done! You're getting much cleaner cuts. Your progress in the 1,2,3,4,5 photos shows your increasing confidence and accuracy!
