    Default Coral lamp.

Experimenting a bit again with a coral look concept, I had this piece of oak sitting around for quite a while not too keen to try carving it with gouges because of the hardness so I cut the back out a bit and power carved this sculpture using an Arbortech mini grinder with a sabur tooth disc and rotary burs and cutters. I think it's quite a nice effect and if you put a little light behind it it can be a corner lamp Anyway I'm interested in others thoughts.

Nice Piece , a really creative design, modern looking .
Unfortunately the picture enlarger is not working so I cant see the dark finish in close up but I think I would prefer it in the natural wood finish ?

The figure & colour in that "Oak"??? ! looks nothing at all like European Oak , I suppose we should be aware that we might be talking about a totally different wood given that we are on the opposite side of the planet ! Most likely it was named by an early settler s the closest thing in the old world .

    It is an interesting piece.

Love the idea of the lamp.

Thanks Mike, I haven't stained it or anything, just finished it in Danish oil, I bought a pile of wood off a guy who was a furniture maker and he said it was American oak so I'm just taking him on his word, I'm really just getting started on the coral look but I like it and need to come up with a few designs to suit the wood I have, I'll probably stick with this for a while instead of jumping all over the place.

    Hi Rob,
That's so unique! You have captured the bubbles rising behind coral in an ocean silhouette really well, with the lamp behind. Maybe a little fish in the next one? I love it

I could use that. A few watts of LED light all night, out in the main part of the house for safety, not totally dark.
The design reminds me of very badly bored timber, worked over by marine worms. (Toredo?)

Thanks Germaine, I'm going to stick with this for a bit and try and design some more coral sculptures and I will add a fish somewhere along the line but for now I have an idea of another coral light involving an abalone shell. Hope your feeling well

Sold How much is the postage to Canada RV? The design is just like you described actually, the coral like plant leaves gets attacked by all sorts of marine creatures hence the odd shapes and broken edge.
