Crouching Tiger.
My latest carving, crouching tiger in Basswood with a Jarrah base and a bit of paint work ( there's a dragon too but it's hidden )

Well done, Rob! You have really captured the bone/muscle structure of the crouching tiger!

Shoulders & elbows & hips = such a cat posture.
Another capture of a moment in time.
Thanks, Rob.
What's your opinion of basswood when compared with Jelutong?

Thanks Mike and RV. I think I printed about 20 pictures of tigers at all different angles to try and get the right crouching pose and muscle structure but still stuffed up on a couple of areas, Painting was also a challenge as I hardly ever paint wood but a tiger has to have stripes
RV, Basswood is better to carve than Jelutong in my opinion, more dense so it doesn't split and break off so easily but it's harder to sand than Jelutong. I have found a local timber place that has English lime so I'm going to get some of that next, I believe it's very similar to Basswood.

I have a cat, Heidi. She's old, like me. But, she is almost the same size as your carving.
I have trees in my lounge room. Heidi doesn't jump around in them much any more.
I have seen her crouch to pounce on toys and dead leaves. Exactly. Exactly as you have carved.
If anything, Heidi's head is smaller in ratio to her body. I don't know about tigers.

We had a cat that lived for 22 years, He wasn't doing much at all in his later years but early on he loved to ambush you and crouch down with that determined stare cats have. the tigers snout appears a bit longer than most big cats then the round hairy jaws, so the head appears to be a bit bigger I'd say.
