you should have a fruitful exhibition with your work .the figure looks outstand ing its a pity you cant walk round them which is something i always have to do when is any sculpture .pretty impressive goos stuff

hope it all bears fruit

originally they were maquettes(models) for ones I was going to carve, but I decided to use them as the finished piece...fun and quick to make, bake them in an oven, paint them blue..

I recently was asked to produce a trophy for our local surf rescue of two women in a 'rubber duck' surf craft... hands on tiller and 'hold' ropes, crouched and torsos rotated. I tried on wood... but constantly breaking the limbs off. Tried air dried clay on wire (pipe cleaner) frame. Looked like demented 5 year-old had been turned loose.

Is there any chance you can elaborate on the technique you used... especially the 'aluminium armature' ?? Photos would be great.

Just spotted your question Whittling...
I used 3mm square aluminium armature wire and make up a basic stick figure (as in pic) this one is about 300mm tall.
then I (bend) pose the armature to the desired shape and (in this pic) fleshed it out with plasticene.
For the blue guys I used polymer clay (super sculpy) and baked it in the oven for about half an hour at 120deg C..

Thanks so much for this Undie. I tried roughly this technique using pipe cleaners and an air drying modeling compound but the results were less then inspiring. I think I had the right idea but the wrong materials. I'll try again. Would aluminium armature wire be available in craft supply stores or has it some other source?
