Fishy
Have recently played around with carving canes, although I don't know why, but I like the challenge of making somthing different.
The fish is redgum and not sure what the other timber is, but had bark on it which I took offwhale oil beef hooked

Looks real good fishy, nothing wrong with carving canes or hiking sticks. They certainly get your art out there to be seen and a carved cane or stick is a surefire conversation starter.

Fantastic work GDF. Its great to have a fellow stick maker on this site too! I think Blinki is right... art that can be carried around and enjoyed anywhere by anyone has definate advantages.
This piece is great. I'm pleased you left the 'kink' in the stick shaft too. Adds to the uniqueness of the piece.
The scales and other details on the fish look as though they were burned in? What did you use for that?

Thanks for the comments, I used pyrography using a curved attachment.
Hope to do a few more, some quirky ones, have the ideas in my head, just need to put them into reality.
I can imagine having quite a few piling up in the future.
Cheers

Love it, agrre with Blinky/Whittling about getting your work seen around, There's something about a walking stick that sets the point odf interest and a connecting hand up, maybe it's the intimacy, maybe it's the long pedestal, anyway well done
