    Default Frog stick

Every now and then I come across a stick in the bush that just screams out to be carved onto something special. The trouble is, I don't speak 'stick' very well and sometimes I have to wait and think about it for quite a while before I get the message about what I'm supposed to carve on it.

The following was one of those sticks. I wish I'd photographed it before I started carving it. I actually held onto it for amost a year before deciding on the little frog. The wood is pink gum. The handle had two odd projections at ninety degrees to the shaft and both of them were in the same plane as the handle and the shaft. As I said.. most unusual.

Anyway here it is. The frog gets lost a bit in the grain and colour of the wood but the impulse to paint it (the frog) to make it stand out was fortunately I came to my senses very quickly.

Great looking stick. The frog was a good choice. I love it when what we carve looks like it belongs there.

Great work! Those special bits of stick don't come up all that often, sometimes inspiration is quick, sometimes worth waiting for. This was definitely worth the wait.

Very impressive. I don't think I would ever envision that there was a frog in the wood waiting to come out. Amazing what a bit of imagination can do. Looks great.

    Thanks guys.

It didn't hang around long. Sold it this weekend at the local Craft Fair. I'm almost sorry. I think I would have liked to keep it for a while but the lady forced me to sell by shoving money in me hand...

She has agreed to let me have it back in order to enter it in the carving competion at the upcoming Agricultural show.
