Just a Hello to fellow Huon Pine Carvers.
Greetings.bit new at this, but not with the Huon Pine carving, been doing that for around 35 years now,and must agree superb Timber for Carving, and to me none of it is classed as "Rubbish",as I carve tiny items as well, after many years working down the sth west of Tasmania as a Tunnel man it was a shame to see this Timber wasted during construction, although I was a bit ignorant to the wonders of the Huon Pine and its natural beauty, alas I was not a Carver back then when some old mills had to close and they were giving dressed Huon Pine away by the ute load,my loss.and now it is getting higher in price, understandable due to it age and being rather unique growing just here in Tasmania, and well worth the effort Carving this Timber,I have just completed a 4.4 metre Relief Carving called "Australia" Circa 1880's "Our Pioneer Years",took approx 3 years to complete, very fitting for this slab of Huon Pine.

Very nice work Roger. Good few hours on the tools there. Very well done.
I've done a bit of Houn Pine carving myself and yes it's a lovely wood to carve and turn.
Here's a link to Victorian, State Coats of Arms carved for Supreme Courts, Courts of Appeals Melbourne.
