Made a few more micro tools from the 1ml piano wire. Tried a few different angles and shapes. They probably need a little more sanding.....but they hold a mean edge! I'll probably change the angle of the shaft to suit after I've used them properly and can see which is best. The piano wire is amazing! I think I'll try and get some 1.5ml and 2ml as well.
    Thanks again David.

They look very handy featherwood, did you just drill a hole in the top of the dowel and glue them in. Think I'm gonna make some.

Yep, I used a 1ml drill bit....same size as the piano wire. Then just dipped the end cm of the wire in superglue. I think it will be strong enough! I'll soon find out I guess!

I can't resist the urge to make some either. If only for the McGyver factor.

You're doing great with the micro chisels. I'll be looking to you for tips on using the thicker music wire though, I found it hard to get the geometry right with the edge on the thicker wire.

I've got one last tip though... one of the 'mushroom' type handles jewellers use for gravers will give you all the advantages of palm tools for miniature work. I bought one with a small chuck and a variety of collets to accommodate my different wire tools. Here it is and here is a possible supplier.

    Thanks David. They look great!
Would be handy to just change the wire tool to suit!

I just got my hands on a better anvil....the chisels I've made already I made on an old bit of railway.....it was a bit rough..so the chisels needed a lot of sanding.

Don't laugh....I now have a roller from an excavator...it weighs a ton but it has a lot of good angles on it, as well as a flat area and is a lot smoother. I just have to clean it up a bit. I just tried it.......it works great! I'm going to try for the gouge shape if I can.

    Thanks again.

Featherwood that piece is what I call "best of breed" - it is craftsmanship on a level I could only dream of attaining. Well done and thanks for letting me see its beauty.

You could easily join the band of carvers known as Ouro Artesania who produce sculptures of my beloved Don Quixote and Sancho Panza

(This fellow I acquired this week from Spain - at 12 inches tall, he is my largest so far)
