Mardi Gras Indian
In Louisiana, Mardi Gras is probably a bigger holiday than Christmas. Definitely longer lasting, with parades and celebrations for several weeks. A friend asked me carve a Mardi Gras Indian for his wife for a Christmas present. Here's a link about Mardi Gras Indians, for those of you unfamiliar with this. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mardi_Gras_Indians and here is a link to some images of the Mardi Gras Indians: https://www.google.com/search?q=mard...w=1519&bih=973 Carving marabou feathers is just about impossible, so I carved this from basswood (~250mm tall, not counting feathers), and then drilled 0.8mm holes every 6mm around the chest plate, apron, back side of the arms, and the bonnet. I then inserted pieces of marabou into the holes and touched each one with super glue to hold it in the hole. The last photo shows a closeup of the feathers inserted in the bonnet. The colors purple, green, and yellow are traditional Mardi Gras colors.
