Such a beautiful, inspiring piece! To me, this is representative of the pinnacle of the woodcarver's art and heart and soul. I am gobsmacked by the subject, composition and finish of this example of fine art; jealous of your skill at taking the work to exactly the right moment when another stroke, line, curl or stipple would have been too far. Absolutely stunning work.
Wherever did you find a piece of Huon -- a single piece, I would assume?

Thank you very much for such a lovely compliment. Yes, it is a single piece of Huon which I picked up at a wood working show years ago.

Thank you very much for your lovely compliments Richard but I don't think I'm a master by a long shot...maybe in a hundred lifetimes. I did get the chance to see a master carvers work on a recent trip. Wondering around Melbourne just by chance I came across St Paul's Cathedral diagonally across from Flinders Street station. Built in the late 1800's it was stunning inside but I discovered the most amazing and intricate carving inside. It was I think of all the kings of England (don't quote me on that). The detail and craftsmanship of this carving was mind blowing. I couldn't help but try to imagine what tools had been used and how old and experienced the carver must have been. I couldn't find a signature anywhere on it and it just said it was a gift to the church. That is what I call a true master. If you haven't seen it don't miss it next time you are in Melbourne. It's really incredible.

Hi Featherwood. I know right where that is but I have never ventured into the Cathedral. I will definately have a look next time I’m in Melbourne. Thanks for the heads up on that!
    Regards Richard
