    Thanks Whittling
    Wow, what can I say!
I guess being a poor carver is who I am. I just love carving. A little money wouldn't go astray I must admit. One of my sons once said to me...he didn't want us to win lotto because it would change us. He loves the way we are, the way we live and the way we think. I guess being poor isn't a bad thing as long as you're happy. The small simple things in life can be the most rewarding.

To answer your questions....the rocks I did by doing dots with a burner.
After trying everything under the sun to add colour to carvings I found that I like the grain of the wood to show through. I found Prismacolor pencils are very creamy and are wonderful for mixing and blending, so I carefully blended a few browns and gently rubbed it in. Then waxed over the top to seal it in. I wanted to give just a hint so as not to take away from the carving but to show the beautiful nautiluses bands.

You certainly have done a wonderful carving and after reading your replies and thoughts as to how and why you choose this subject gives us quite an insight.

I’m fascinated with your exactness to detail and finish. The real thing most likely would be jealous. Tip my hat.

I think my enjoyment overrules everything with this one. Half the fun was exploring the intricacies of this very ancient sea creature (even if it did do my head in at times) and wondering how it has survived for millions of years just bobbing around the sea (eating prawns)

Don't know what to say. I have never seen a carving which so carefully displays the character of these animals. I appreciate your need to back away from the intensity of mental efforts which went into this. It gives power to my imagination. Thanks.
