Oh Germaine Germaine you've done it again . I think this is the best you have done that I've seen and you know I follow you on Facebook. Seriously I don't know how you get it so right without botching it anywhere, I think I might have to slow down and take more time. Take a bow but you've really set your personal bar high now.

    Lol. Thanks Rob
No no no no bar! I'm flat out in reverse.....just sticking to little sleeping foxes, owls, wombats any small round things with no tentacles, no strange appendages and no prawns
Just going to keep it simple. Till some other strange idea pops into my head!

the hardest thing to do in carving is to stop and call it finished , with realism its all about how much detail, how good your eyes are and how small do your tools go . really nice piece

Often having the patience & persistence to keep going despite the fact of having tired yourself of the project is a good thing, then again fiddling too much can be a bad thing . It's a sensitive call to say when it's finished I reckon , there's always a part of me dying to put the finish on & get on with some new inspiration or maybe just rid myself of the burden of the old one ! It does depend I find.
Woodcarving can be very satisfying ,& testing at the same time.

Beautiful, thoughtful and intelligent design carved with affection and sensitivity. The finish is just superb. Keep pushing the boundaries, we all depend on seeing good honest art and workmanship at all kinds of levels and styles - but especially inspiring stuff like this.

That looks awesome. How did you get the wood to look so smooth? Did you sand it with fine grit paper?

Thanks Spoonman Yes, I used sandpaper starting at 100 grit and went up through the grades to 1000 grit. Then used foam sanding pads (as they are good for round things) 1200 grit then 1500 grit. Then rubbed it with white and gold Bear Tex pads to get a nice finish. All from the Sandpaper Man....Fantastic products and Fantastic service.
