New work
...and it was about time . Ebonised Sapele over plywood base , acrilic paint , 85 cm long. The title , ful of double meanings and puns , , is "But still they come"

Hi Ivan, you have excelled again, such flowing sexy shapes you carve, you must be a devil around the women. You carve with passion in your hands.

Very well done!! The flowing lines lend a serpentine feel to the work!!

I am stumped by these works. They so much look like what shamans say we see in glimpses: our predator. Carlos Castaneda described the glimpses he had as looking like mud shadows in shape, that were blacker than blackness and move around with great speed

stunning piece Ivan as always,
brings to mind a congealed, retro, organic, art nouveau, sci fi, sculptural spaceship,
with just the right amount of ambiguity and originality to engage and confuse the viewer, and I don't know of anyone who can pull off that combination better than you.
At the the risk of copping a serving, I'd like to offer a constructive critique.
The base doesn't quite do it for me,
the height above the base and the three solid posts don't present the work to it's full potential.
I think the piece should be raised higher than it is (perhaps the lowest black piece larger by 300ml) and the three black posts replaced by smaller, thinner stainless posts.
this piece needs to float Ivan, and at the moment it is dragging along the ground.
.
Anyways, you know I rarely volunteer my opinion unless I have total respect for the maker,
this piece is epic.
cheers John
what if the hokey pokey is really what it's all about?

Great piece, enormous movement, it looks like a swooping stingray shape. I do disagree with Underfoot about the posts as I think these throw the piece forward rather than attempt to support it . Not keen on the red base though

Awesome piece Ivan, you are an inspiration!! Tend to agree with John, maybe higher with less intrusive supports, but the form is strong and still commands the eye.
Thanks for sharing.Andy Mac

Thanks all. John , your critic is most wellcome , and we are thinking along the same lines here(Great minds think alike?) I' ve actually experimented with longer posts , but while they make it float , as you point out , it loses , (IMO) , that predator look , like it's just ready to jump at you ( from closer distance) Remember the alien ships over New York in "Independance day" ? Stainless steel...don't know , too shiny and distracting , I think. Anyway , the bases are allways a problem for me ....let's say the wrong bases are just a part of my own personal style?

9th March 2010, 06:59 AM #10Darkness had descended very quickly, and the foliage of the trees that had been glowing green a little while before was now very dark and heavy. Don Juan said that if I paid close attention to the darkness of the foliage without focusing my eyes, but sortof looked at it from the corner of my eye, I would see a fleeting shadow crossing my field of vision.
"This is the appropriate time of day for doing what I am asking you to do," he said. "It takes a moment to engage the necessary attention in you to do it. Don't stop until you catch that fleeting black shadow."
I did see some strange fleeting black shadow projected on the foliage of the trees. It was either one shadow going back and forth or various fleeting shadows moving from left to right or right to left or straight up in the air. They looked like fat black fish to me, enormous fish. It was as if gigantic swordfish were flying in the air. I was engrossed in the sight. Then, finally, it scared me. It became too dark to see the foliage, yet I could still see the fleeting black shadows.

Spot on , Unicorn , I just couldn't stop listening to the disk when I was 17 , driving crazy everybody around me . Movay , I took a look at your link - -some reading! Castaneda's books could be a source of inspiration for some very interesting sculpture . Usualy there are comments about the lines in my sculptures (didn't miss yours , Claw Hama) - guess I could confess now , I dont use carving tools for the long lines (in case someone 's interested) - chairmakers tools , like spokeshaves work much better , small planes too:
