    Default My first project

I made this spoon using my father's tools, so i had just a saw, a file, a gauge and a bit of sandpaper but i guess it's good for starting.
I had to use fir wood because it was the only piece of wood i found, so it's pretty frail.
May i use it right now or it's better to finish it in some way?

You should finish it in some way to prevent food liquids from soaking into the wood and decomposing.
The decomposition will be done by air-borne bacteria and fungi which could then be transferred into the next food that you prepare.

Some carvers recommend food grade mineral oil. Several paint companies make food-safe finishes as well.

    I suggest olive oil.
    1. You could apply several coats, letting each to soak into the wood.
    2. In my "Kitchen Sticks" project, I use olive oil and then heat the sticks to 350F for no more than 3 minutes.
The expansion and contraction of wood air pulls the oil into the wood.

However, you have one spoon, made of a wood that I have not used.
I'm concerned that the heat in the process that I use might crack your wood.

    Very nicely carved.

I think you have done a great job. The first one out of the way.
