Going for better 3D now - can’t beat the old wood hog with coarse saburr tooth flame burr for speed. It’s almost like sketching. A good bit of advice I once got was that the quicker you are able to sketch the better the result, same with carving. Something to do with the brain and being able to track the co-ordinates (proportions) efficiently.

So this is just two Bunnings pine boards glued together to give more carving depth. I was curious to see how the grain will come up once oiled. The vertical stripes help with the theme of water falling I think. In two minds whether to do some very slight transparent stains for finish.

I feel I am over the hump with this now. This is the most enjoyable stage. No major areas to resolve, just finishing and defining better what is already basically there. And this is where relief carving becomes very rewarding if you have everything down as pat as you can gingerly get it.
