He certainly was Crowie...the smallest chain that he made was from a dowel rod that was only 5 mm in diameter!His biggest disappointment though was that he could never find a young person dedicated enough to pass his Whittling knowledge onto...hope this thread inspires and encourages folk to take up the art...glad you enjoyed the pics too Peter...MM

The chess set demonstrates another skill far beyond carvings = replication. I am in awe of his skill.
Did he enjoy the company of any apprentices?

I finally got to see this a couple of weeks ago. Apparently what is on display is a third of the total. I have put some pics on Flickr as well as a couple of videos of mechanisms in action. Most of the photos are the same shots as Mapleman's.

Wonderful pictures movay and thanks. Reporting that I followed Mapleman's directions and procured a copy of the 22 page pamphlet produced at Woodford and kindly posted by Donna Grigor from the Historical Society. Glad to have it.

Wonderful pics Movay...many thanks for contributing...i reckon this thread is worthy of 'sticky' status as one will unlikely witness such woodworking talent within the 'whittling genre' again...truly stunning work...good to see you received the booklet too Stocker,it is not only a good read but a keepsake as well...MM
