Rosewood Pen Blanks
I have blanks here to make approx 50 Rosewood pen blanks, this is dark NSW aromatic rosewood some has lovely figure as in the top length.
I am interested in any acoustic or fiddle backed timber 40x40x650 or 40x150x700, have lovely Figured Qld maple too that I could add if nescessary to sweeten the deal.

For me, its not so much that I am not up for it. I don't have anything in the sizes or descriptions you are interested in swapping for. I also have a bit of rosewood already and if I am totally honest with myself, I have way too many pen blanks to get through at the moment (like thats an excuse)
CorbsIt's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

Rosewood
What sort of timber is classed as acoustic. As I am not sure what you are looking for. I live in Esperance WA. Wondering if there is any of our Western Timbers that will suit.

Acoustic Tone Woods
I'm not really sure about any Western Aussie woods, but to answer your question on acoustics it's a wood that rings or vibrates as opposed to a wood that is dull. The tap test is a good way to tell (with hammer) or sometimes you can rub your hand along a short length of dressed wood and see what you get, more acoustic tone woods will make a nice sound. Aussie woods that are known to have good tone are QLD Maple, White Cedar, Rosewood, Huon, Myrtle, Brown Pine, KB Pine and many others.
Maybe other members who know the WA woods well can help here.
My application is Flutes and I prefer medium density hardwoods which arn't common. Certain softer woods can also suit as long as they have some density and strength.
Let me know if you have any luck
Cheers

Spirit, just interested in how to determine what makes an acoustic timber, when u tap them does it depend on the section size of the timber? Will u still get a note but maybe a different tone if it was a different size?
Peter.

Tone Test
OK but for starters I am not an expert just shareing my experience here.
I find it is best to have a section about 40x40, or basically whatever size you have, and tap it with a heavier object a hammer steel rod seems to work. Holding the timber as opposed to it being on a bench. You get the feel for it, especially if you expiriment with various different timbers at close intervals. I believe it is mostly to do with density and other properties in the wood, not entirely sure but it's interesting. The best way is tio make a flute or guitar out of it and thats the ultimate test, but you'd want to have a good idea first. I'd welcome anyone to add to that if they have any other information.
Cheers

Yes it's good, but I have a supply already, certainly makes a nice looking flute with just as attractive sound for the flutes I make. See following link https://www.woodworkforums.com/showth...t=94054&page=2
A few sticks will be $10 and whatever postage costs to your neck of the woods. I'll see you get some nice ones. Just PM me and we'll get things rolling if your interested
