Default leaf inlay to dining table

    Hi All,

I have a beautiful dining table, solid, rustic and made from rosewood, or so I was told.

Over the years it has been used as a desk and has had a perfect hole drilled thriugh it for the cables to run through.

I was hoping to now make this hole a feature of the table by inlaying a leaf into resin.

Can anyone give me some ideas of how to do this.

    Thank you
    Chrissy

    Default inlay

    Hi Chrissy,

"inlaying a leaf into resin" What do you mean? You want to fill the whole with resin?
Can you send pictures of the table?

In theory these are the steps for inlay: (no resin)

    • cut out the required piece you want to inlay,

    • mark it around where you want to put it,- with Stanley knife, the more precise the marking the more accurate your inlay will be
    • router out the debt of the marked out surface - not to the line dough!!! that is important, but few millimeter inside. The debt needs to be just a little be less then your piece to be inserted.
    • chisel out the remaining to the line by hand
    • make sure you cut the grains where you mark it deep enough to chisel easily
    • glue it in and sand it to surface level

    Have fun and good luck.
    cheers kat
