    Default 100x610 sanding belt

I bought Hermes alumin oxide 100x610 sanding belts from sandpaperman (to use on a makita belt sander). Does anyone know of a source to get ceramic/zirconia belts?

EBay. Search for a seller "pilatusabrasives". They have zirconia and silicon carbide in the size you seek.

    Hermes...eww.

We got our zirconia belts from Abrasiflex, not sure if they sell to the public but costs nothing to ask https://abrasiflex.com.au/product/linishing-belts/

will look into it. AFAIK silicon carbide is not long lasting?

I was the tester at work whenever we got new samples and I found Hermes products to have the shortest useful life of any of them. Brands tested include sia, Norton, Astra, Deerfos (their Gold stuff was also garbage, but they make the Abrasiflex zirconia belts which are excellent), Indasa, Wurth, Festool, Revcut Blue and possibly more that I don't remember.

I see. I always thought these belts didnt seem to last that long, though I have nothing to compare it to.

Of the brands you tested, mind giving a rundown or general list of what is good vs whats worth avoiding?

Knife making guys use these belts in various forms.

Artisan Supplies is highly regarded amongst them: https://www.artisansupplies.com.au/p...c=22783a5940ef

I'm quite sure they can obtain what you need.

It's been too long since I used them to give a proper rundown.

I quite liked the Indasa Redline, which was our standard paper for hand sanding. The Astra discs were good until we lost the supplier; we went to Wurth for a while, then found Revcut Blue which lasted longer and are film rather than paper so they don't tear. Before zirconia we were on Norton linisher belts which did quite well. Wide belt sander was using siawood 1919+; cost over $100 a belt but they lasted. One time we got sent 1909 (the economy version) instead because someone wasn't paying attention and the difference was noticeable. I think Festool has gone to version 2 since I used them, so I can't comment on the new stuff.

Regardless of what brand you go with, buy belt cleaning sticks and use them regularly. You'll notice the difference.

    They're working steel, not wood.

The belts will have likely have different coatings and/or structures specifically for metal that may not work as well on timber.

Anyone have thoughts on zirconia vs ceramic
    ?

    zirconia about $9.60 per belt
    ceramic about $14.50 per belt

compared to hermes al oxide at $4.50 per belt

    Theyre both very expensive!!

    edit:
the zirc belts are Deerfos PZ533 and the ceramic are Bora 7. Both marketed as abrasives for metal. I want to use it on a makita belt sander on wood to grind away router marks from a router sled. Is that ok?

You can get a pack of 10 zirconia belts delivered from the E-Bay seller I mentioned for $60.00

I've found these belts work well on both timber and metal on my 2260 *150 sander.

6 Bucks a belt, seems ok to me.

Your right! I looked it up last night and put it in my ebay cart and completely forgot about it this morning after reading the email from abrasiflex. Thanks for the reminder lol
