Where to find an 11mm brad point bit in Melb?
G'day,
I'm chasing an 11mm brad point bit or a 7/16th" , anyone know who stocks them in Melbourne?
I've tried C/tec, Carroll's Woodcraft, Bunnies and H&F. I haven't driven anywhere yet as I'd rather not waste petrol I'm amazed they are so hard to find.

Any industrial supplies store should have that stuff. Try places like Alltools, assuming that they still exist, or Just Tools. I bought a set of assorted drills at Just Tools, one of which was an 11mm brad point.
In Bendigo we've got 3-4 stores like this, so I'm sure there must be MANY in Melbourne.
Also, try an online search like this:
http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=e...cr%3DcountryAU
The first hit on the search result was:
http://www.thewoodworks.com.au/site/...tml&pg=1002006... as long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation. (A.Hitler)

G'day Ronn,
Thanks for that. I'll give Just Tools a go, there's one about 20 minutes away. I found Woodworks earlier after a search, but their website keeps bombing out, so I'm wondering if they've gone belly up.

HI Waldo,
You could always grind one.
The bigger sizes are easier to learn on.

11mils and odd size I'm thinking. So if you can't get it. put a brad point a little bigger in the drill press. lock it off. some imperial measurement thats just above 11mm. then brush a diamond stone against the side as the bits spinning. do a bit, then drill a hole in some wood, check the hole it cuts. back with the diamond stone. gradually creep up on it.
If you've only got a twist bit to get the spur , you just mount a thin alo wheel on the grinder. Shape it with a diamond stick so its sharp point like the gullet in the brads, and just grind them in the wings.

Nope Dj, haven't found one yet - I think I've got more luck so far of pulling teeth out of one of the chooks down the backyard.
Trouble is Jake, my 11mm bits are blunt from many a time drilling things harder than timber.

OK, I'll have a look tomorrow and if I haven't got one, I'll grind one up for you from a normal bit
What do you prefer if I have to grind one up for you, 11mm or 7/16"? 7/16" is 0.0044mm bigger than 11mm so probably wouldn't make any difference anywayCheers

My apologies, Chris.
I just checked Jim Carroll's website and the bit I was thinking of - and pointed you at - is the 27/64", which is just a tad under 11mm.
I guess you could always "wobble it" in the hole...
