16mm hard wood rod
hey fellers
well i have had a bit of a brain wave ( thank god it didnt hurt to much) for building a box but i want to use some 16mm hard wood rod or dowel but without the ribs and use them as inlays anyone no were i can get it from? i need it to have a pretty tight grain as the end grain will be all ya see

You could make your own or get a tame woodturner to do it for you

G'day gags
If you want 16mm dowel....bunnings has it most hardware stores with a timber section would...same stuff as in china's link
Are you talking about slicing thin slices off the end of dowel ? to inlay into another timber ?
If so a better way to do it would be buy a plug cutter and make your own....then you can use any timber you like.

i presume you want 16mm rod ,but you want the grain to run across instead of along like normal rod , am i correct so far? , if i am you could get a wood turner to turn you up some ,not too hard a task. bob

Good Idea From Brown Dog, plug cutter is the way to go (wish I,d thought of it)
