    Default 2 Seater Garden Bench

We've been in need of a small bench for near the pool to put stuff on.

I pulled an old barge board and a post leftover from the renovations from under the deck and when cleaned up they proved to be some quite nice old growth oregon.

Just enough wood to squeeze out this 2 seater bench. I think the dry fit came together nicely so I thought I'd post a pic. A few bolt and nail holes to fill and some edges need to be rounded over then a coat of paint to finish.

    Completed bench on the deck...

Even at only a metre or so long the 35mm oregon planks in the seat seemed to flex too much for my liking so I added a centre rail underneath before final glueup.

I'm not entirely happy with the shape of the arms, but I'm not sure adding more roundover would have improved the look either.

Good job, looks OK, perhaps a slight kink in the uprights to bring the arms out a couple of inches and a single back rest would add something.
    Just an idea.

Originally I had thought of a seat with a back fixed to longer rear legs that curved out, however I was limited by the timber I had on hand and there just wasn't enough of the oregon to do that. This was just intended to be a quickie and purchasing more material wasn't justified.

Having started with an old nail infested barge board, I'm actually more than pleased with the end result. I'm just not sure what possible changes in this particular design using no more material would do. I suspect lowering the arms might change the balance more to my liking. However the intention was to have something high enough to drape a towel over and lower sides might not have work as well for that.
