About to get back into it!!
About three years ago I had a VP shunt operation due to NPH.
Since then I have done very little woodwork and I have been reluctant to start anything that equates to being considered reasonable standard.
I did make some shelves in the shed from 2nd hand timber and I made a bench cupboard. The bench cupboard is far from what I consider to be even
good standard but at least I coped with the process!
Process has been the big issue as I have to really think things out and make notes so I don't get lost!!Lack of Confidence has been the big issue in motivating me
to get started.
I started with a bit of wood turning at the club and had to get some help to get going as if I were a beginner. Things started to come back to me and I decided
to watch some of Brendan Stemp's excellent videos. With much restored confidence I set to work to finish a couple of bowls that I had started on years ago.
All was going well and as I was working away I heard the fellow on the next lathe having trouble so I went to have on optic. To my astonishment he was using
a roughing gouge on a concave curve. I stopped him and gave him a lesson with the bowl gouge. My confidence had returned!! Funny how things can just come
back after long periods in the dark! and some good influences through the likes of Brendan's videos.
Following on from this I am about to embark on the construction of a Queen sized bed as a gift for a couple of immigrant friends who are just getting on their feet.
I have made several beds over the years but will have to draw up some detailed instructions to myself to tackle this one. Luckily the design is simple enough with
the only complicating factor being the use of recycled timber.
Thanks to Jeffen I may even be able to post some WIP pictures!!

Hi Artme, good to hear that you are back into making sawdust.
I am sure you will make an excellent bed.
Woodturning is a new challenge for me and I have enjoyed watching Brendan Stemp's videos. I'm not sure if they instill confidence or fear?
Drawing up good plans is probably good practice as well as good therapy. i might try it myself.
All the bestScally

Welcome back Artme! I hope all is well with you now and that you are able to continue to make (and show us) great works. There's nothing worse than wanting to make something, but fearing that all you will do is destroy a prime piece of wood.
Again, great to see you back and as Alex says, Go for it!!
Regards,
Rob

Hi Artme, good to hear you're getting back into it. You've contributed so much to this forum, always positive and encouraging, and no doubt your newfound enthusiasm will be good therapy for your recovery.
